The information and complaint of Chan Wan taken this
day before me the undersigned one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said Colony who states:-

In January, 1901, I was living with my
brother Chan Lam Tsai (whose official name is Chan Tai On) in
Canton City; a soldier named Tung Cheung was living with us.
On 6th. January at 7 A.M. a soldier named Ko

Ping Shan came to our house and told us that Li Ka Cheuk, the Commandant of the Canton City Guard, had offered a large reward
to anyone who would capture or shoot Yeung Kui Wan, a Chinese rebel living in Hongkong.
Ko Ping Shan asked us to do it, and my
brother said he would go.

My brother then went out with Ko Ping Shan
and returned at 5 P.M., and said he was going to shoot Yeung Kui Wan and asked Tung Cheung to join him. Tung Cheung agreed to do
so, and they arranged that they would ask Li Ka Cheuk to make a
written agreement about the reward and give the agreement to me
to keep.

Very early in the morning of the 7th.
January I went with my brother and Tung Cheung to Li Ka Cheuk's
barracks at Sze Tsi Kiu near the North Gate of Canton City. Ne
there saw Yeung Tsing Kai, an Officer under Li Ka Cheuk and
Captain of the "Kin Yui" Gunboat, and I heard my brother say to
Yeung Tsing Kai "If we succeed in doing this affair where shall
"we get the reward ?" to which Yeung Tsing Kai replied "Dont be
"afraid, younger brother, even more than one million the Govern-
